     The Meadows Middle School is spearheading an effort to instill the qualities of Kindness, Manners, Respect, and Responsibility (KMRR) into our students and to have them recognize those attributes in the behavior of others around them. At the beginning of the school year each sixth, seventh, and eighth grade student was given a KMRR button to wear which simply acts as a reminder of the behavior we expect from our students. Most students wear the buttons every day, knowing that teachers from time to time will give them special privileges or extra credit points for displaying the button on their person. At the end of every month teachers acknowledge the students who have exemplified all qualities for the past month, and those students are given a reward of a homework pass, a free ice cream pass, and a free doughnut pass. As a result of this project, teachers, staff, and parents have noticed a kinder overall attitude among the students as well as a deliberate attempt to be aware at all times of what their button represents.
     As an extension of our KMRR project, business cards were designed by one of our parents, and two cards were distributed to each Middle School student to pass on to someone in the community or beyond whose kindness or generous spirit could not be ignored. It is the hope of Meadows students and faculty that the distribution of these cards will foster the spread of kind and thoughtful deeds in local as well as distant places. This is a means of recognizing the goodness of people's actions and of building a more kind, respectful, and responsible society.
